Breaking The Tie That Binds

I’ve recently had the most eye opening experiences of my life. You know that saying “When It Rains, It Pours”?? Well, it’s true. And if another front doesn’t come through to stop the storm, it can go on and on forever and wipe you out.

I’m referring to our own inner storm. The one that creates thunder and lightening and drowns out the other sounds of nature. These thunder and lightening crashes I’m talking about are our inner thoughts. The ones that force us into action, whether it be positive or negative, or stop us from being in action all together.

I’ve heard many therapists say that at the young age of possibly 3 years old, something happens to us, we become defined by how our parents treat or discipline us. If we were treated with love and respect, generally we will not only treat others with love and respect, but more importantly, ourselves. If we were disciplined for every little thing we did, experienced abuse on any level, grew up in a household with lots of fighting and dysfunction,  we may take that into our adult life an play the victim role with illness, financial distress, and relationship issues. The primary relationship issue being with our own self.  We define ourselves as a certain character in life. We wind up feeling sorry for ourselves and beat that drum our entire life getting others to feel sorry for us which enables us to have “excuses” for not living out the life we really want, having the perfect job, spouse, home, family, friends, etc. The list goes on and on.

We all have a little something that we keep to ourselves. It’s our own little secret. Our imaginary friend, if you will.  And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. We don’t have to share every little detail of every little thought that we have in life. That would be impossible. But most of us are walking around with big dark secrets. The kind that cause us anxiety. Whether it be a thought, a health issue, a food issue, a relationship issue,  or a job/financial issue. And many of us have multiple issues of these and others. Carrying them around day after day, year after year. But at some point we are going to have to come clean. We will resist it. We will push it away. We will lie to others and tell them there is nothing wrong when we are truly suffering inside. But it shows up for us when we least expect it.

Having been a business owner for 8 years and working for myself and by myself, there really was no one in my professional arena to share my work issues with. And at the end of the day, I didn’t really want to bombard my husband with upsets from work. I felt that he was tired of hearing about my upsets. So I internalized it, kept it to myself, and let it eat away at me.

Work was killing me. I was no longer happy. I loved my clients. However, because I was not in a good space, I was unable to truly give myself wholly to them and their treatment. Lost in my own thoughts I was not completely present. And that showed up for me in the financial aspect. And because money is energy, that energy transfused into other areas of my life. When you have a lot of money….you have a lot of energy. When times are tight….you become tight, physically AND in the wallet. And these are things, that start to show up for you in your personal life. Marriage, Family, Friends, Health, and most importantly, your relationship with yourself.

I took the plunge recently and have decided that I truly need to work on breaking the tie that binds me in life.  I had always thought that my issues were directly related to physical health, nutrition, and fitness. But it’s truly a lot deeper than that. The emotional scars of my past have shown up for me in my present life. In relationships, in my professional arena, and again, most importantly with myself. These are things that no food allergist can tell me to avoid. No fitness instructor can tell me to lift. And no nutritionist can prescribe me to eat. It’s not about working out more and eating less.

It IS about letting go.  These past couple of weeks I’ve engaged myself to work with a therapist on stress and anxiety issues. To help me see the real honest to God reasons why I have certain physical or spiritual health issues. Working at the core level of my being to help me break free from the issues of my past and to plow forward into an abundant and fulfilling life with my husband, my family, my job, my body, and my spirit.

Living a life that someone else decided we should live is living a big fat lie. It’s like having someone prepare a meal for you,  a meal you detest, and you saying that you love it when you really hate it.  Then they just assume you love it and feed you the same food over and over and over until you are just used to eating it. You don’t know any differently.  When we are very young and under the influence of our parents, they pretty much domesticate us into being who they want us to be….the same way they would domesticate a puppy. We are trained to act, eat, and behave a certain way. A way in which pleases them…..and they know no differently because it was done to them as well.

Having had many of my unresolved issues surface at the same time, there was nothing I could do but be forced to face them head on.  I banged my head against the wall for years until recently. Recently I gave up my business. A business I had for 8 years. A business that in the initial years brought me lots of joy, financial abundance, and a sense of self. But time went on. Stress developed. And my sense of self, where I wanted to be professionally and personally didn’t develop along with it.  I didn’t grab on when opportunity knocked to have more. I was in my comfort zone. And didn’t realize and opportunity for growth….until that opportunity was gone.

But now I have it again. The opportunity of a life time. The opportunity to let go of the past….be present….and let the future take me where I was meant to be. With the closing of the doors of my business, I am opening the doors of the future. I’m back in school studying more on health and wellness and working towards my true goals. I’m working doing more writing and and blogging. I’m working on relationships in my life with myself, my husband, my family, and my friends. And yes, I’m seeing a counselor  to work through and cut that tie  that binds. It won’t be easy.  But I’m up for the challenge.

There is no better gift than the present.  Be present and Just Be!!

Find that inner child in you that never got stopped from pursuing happiness, love, fulfillment…..that cookie from the jar that mama said you couldn’t have. Find a way to have that cookie and live a life that you love living.

Til Next Time!!

Why Do A Cleanse

Image

These days we are bombarded with wall sorts of new programs that are supposed to make us healthier and give us a higher quality of life.  There are all sorts of diets and and fitness programs guaranteed to take you to that next level of feeling and being your best. Some of these programs are amazing and some, well, not so much. You really have to be careful where you get your information from. That said,  there is something out there for everyone. We just need to customize it to our specific needs……

Cleansing is not different. There are many different cleanses out there that are amazing, and there are many different cleanses out there that I would steer clear from. In my experience, when it comes to cleansing and detoxing, less is more. You do not need to take loads of powders, potions, pills, and crazy concoctions made up for you that smell horrible, taste like they smell, and ultimately will deter you from completing your process.

So why do a cleanse in the first place?

The list is endless. We have been walking this earth for as long as we have been alive. And for the most part, many of us are not eating what our ancestors ate back in the day. Wild berries, wild game, and literally, locally grown foods that were picked as we went along. Nope! The only picking we are doing is the picking up through the drive through. And although a junk meal here and there isn’t going to ultimately kill you, it’s the cumulative effect that takes place. Think of your car. You drive and drive and drive. Eventually you have to get an oil change, a tune up, and car washes in order to keep it clean and functioning properly.  Yet, people care more about what they put in their cars than what they put in their own bodies…..and it shows.

Just look at the bellies hanging over the belts these days. Look at how children are heavier than ever before in history. The obesity, diabetes, cancer, and cardiac disease rates have sky rocketed. We are heavier than ever before in history. Yet if we are partaking on these great programs, the latest and greatest diets and exercise programs….why are we so incredibly unhealthy. Because we’ve been going about it the wrong way.

When starting a new program, it’s always best to initiate it by clearing out the junk both in your cupboards and in your body. The most effective way to have long lasting results is to literally take the trash out.

Doing a cleanse before starting a new program helps to rid the body of toxins, clears out waste from the colon, pulls retained fluid from the lymphatic system, allows for blood to renew itself on a cellular level, clears skin of acne, allows for more restful sleep, increases your energy so that you can have the energy to exercise more, reduces cravings, and gives you an overall sense of well-being.

Cleansing and detoxing allows the body a sense of freedom to reset and start from scratch. And there are many ways to cleanse. You can start with food eliminations first and then move into something more advanced.

My personal recommendation is to remove any and all inflammatory foods.

  • Dairy
  • Soy
  • Wheat
  • Gluten
  • Grains
  • Night Shade Vegetables (peppers, egg plant, white potatoes, tomatoes)
  • Processed Sugar….or any sugar for that matter.

And add in the foods that are going to nourish our CELLS!!

  • Leafy Green veggies (kale, swiss chard, collard greens, spinach, )
  • Cruciferous Vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage)
  • Any green vegetable (asparagus, bok choy, etc)
  • Low Glycemic Fruits (berries, apples, citrus)
  • Healthy fats (nuts, seeds, coconut, EVOO, Flax, Hemp, Chia, fish oil
  • Clean proteins (wild fish, grass fed meats, organic poultry, organic pasture raised eggs—all to be consumed as a condiment and prepared properly)
  • Water…..lots and lots of water
  • Fresh Herbs (ginger, tumeric, chili powder, cayenne….these herbs create warmth in the body and and very cleansing)
  • Herbal Teas….Any and all teas are wonderful except for black teas.

A cleanse at first can seem restrictive and even scary. We are so addicted to our lifestyles and literally live in fear of taking something away. But what if you looked at cleansing as something that was being given to you. A gift of health that didn’t require surgical procedures, prescription medications, and side effects of those medications.  True health begins on a cellular level. And the only true way to regain that health is by going straight to the the cells and cleansing them out. Releasing them of the toxins and burdens they have been carrying putting added and undue stress on your body….creating that fatigue, that belly, and the acne that you’ve been spending thousands of dollars on OTC remedies that NEVER work and NEVER last.

This doesn’t mean that you can never have your fast food. That you can never have your desserts. That you can never have your lattes, ice cream, or pizza. A cleanse, however, is a wonderful way for you to really get in touch with your body. Establish a true connection so that you get a clearer idea of what your body really needs. And it WILL tell you, that you don’t NEED the junk. And you will see, that your longing for and your craving for those foods will lessen and your desire to feed your body cleaner and more organic products will increase….as will your energy and quality of life.

Having been in the cleansing industry for nearly 9 years now, I am also a HUGE advocate of colon hydrotherapy. Our colons are the main gateway to release toxins from. The average human being has between 16 and 30 pounds worth of fecal matter in their colons. Really nasty when you think about it.  So to follow your cleansing diet up with a series of colon hydrotherapy sessions will definitely take your cleanse and health a higher level. Which is what we really want. Sustainable health that doesn’t rely on quick fixes of junk food, lots of coffee and energy drinks, and medications and supplements to keep us going throughout the day.

Take a look at your lifestyle. Take a look at your diet. Are you tired? Are you bloated? Are you waking in the middle of the night? Do you have skin irritations? Do you have asthma? Do you struggle to get through your workouts….or do you even have any energy to workout at all? Do you have food cravings? Do you need “something” in the middle of the afternoon to get you by? Are you edgy/irritated/stressed?

Simply doing a cleanse and making some changes in your diet and lifestyle can be the first of many steps to increase your quality of life.  Re-establish your life force that you have been seeking.

So let’s start today!!! Let’s take at least one or two of the foods to eliminate from the list above for a minimum of 14 days and see where we are at. Keep notes. Assess how your digestion feels. How your skin looks. And how you are sleeping at night. It could be one thing….two things….the whole list….or something not even on the list.

To Your Health

Welcome to my blog. Having been a holistic health practitioner, former massage therapist, and colon hydrotherapist for nearly 13 years. It is my mission to bring to you cutting edge information on nutrition, cleansing, wellness, and most importantly, health as it pertains specifically to you. We are not all created the same. We are all very different and have very specific nutritional and health needs.

Through experimenting with our diets, fitness, and lifestyles, we are better able to tweak our routines to suite our needs. But you will not find this in a book, on the internet, or in a magazine. Because nobody knows your body better than you do. Yes, as professionals, it is our job to coach you along the way, but ultimately you are the one who knows what works and what doesn’t.

Taking lifestyle into consideration, we are able to make adjustments that will help you become the expert in your health and healing.

Being healthy means being full of abundant energy. Not the kind that comes in the form of a Starbucks cup. But true energy that comes from eating a wholesome whole foods diet, exercising daily, getting plenty of rest, doing regular cleanses, and learning the signals your body sends out when things are out of balance.

This week try 3 new things.

  1. Add more water to your day. A minimum of 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water per day.
  2. Move your bootay. Whether you go for a 3 mile run, a 30 minute walk, take yoga, or chase your kids in the park….get outside and move. Exercise is guaranteed to help remove free radicals from your body and is a natural detoxifier.
  3. Crowd out some of the junk in your diet by adding in more vegetables….preferably green. Try adding some steamed broccoli to your dinner and a dinner salad. Toss some kale into your omelets. Snack on carrots instead of chips. If you can handle eating raw….go for it. If you feel you need to slightly steam your veggies, do it for just enough time to take the edge off.

Making small changes one by one….really makes all the difference in the world. And you will only have yourself to thank.

I look forward to reaching out to you and to bringing you regular health and wellness tips and articles.
